Curaçao’s highest point asks you to work a little for the view. Set within Christoffel National Park, Mount Christoffel is a demanding hike and climb that takes you above the surrounding hills, with wide views across the island from the summit. Arrive early and give the mountain the morning it deserves.
There’s plenty to notice on the way up, too. The trail passes through changing vegetation, with bromeliads, orchids and lichens among the plants found along the route. Listen for birds and take breaks to look around. A guided hike is worth considering if you’d like help spotting wildlife and understanding the landscape.
Start as close to the park’s 6 AM opening as you can. The latest permitted start is 10 AM because of the heat, and you’ll need sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection and at least two liters of water per person. Save energy for the descent as well as the climb.
For a gentler outing, the wider park has shorter trails and birdwatching opportunities. You can spend time exploring Curaçao’s nature without making the summit your goal.
