Aruba is a wonderfully multilingual island where most people speak at least four languages! The official languages are Papiamento and Dutch, but you'll hear English and Spanish everywhere too. Papiamento is the true local language—the heart and soul of Aruban culture. It's a beautiful Creole blend of Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, English, and African languages that reflects the island's rich multicultural history.
In restaurants, hotels, and shops, staff will often start conversations in one language and seamlessly switch to your preferred language if you ask. English is widely spoken throughout the island, so getting around is easy for English-speaking visitors. Learning a few Papiamento phrases like "Bon dia" (good morning) will earn you warm smiles and an even warmer welcome from the friendly locals who truly appreciate the effort!
