44. Wine - Beer - Spirits
Alcohol is widely available in Aruba at grocery stores, dedicated liquor shops, minimarkets, and of course restaurants and bars. The best selection and prices for wine and spirits are at Cheers Wines & Liquors inside Super Food Plaza, which offers hundreds of wines from around the world, premium spirits, and Aruba's largest beer selection—they even host regular wine tastings. Ling & Sons also has an extensive alcohol section with competitive pricing.
For the best prices on hard liquor, shop at the Duty Free store in the Arrivals Hall at the airport when you land (not the departure area). They have excellent deals on spirits, though limited beer and wine selection. You can also pre-order duty free alcohol online at aruba.shopdutyfree.com and pick it up at the airport. If you're near the high-rise hotel area, Captain Jack Liquor (next to Smokey Joe's, below Texas de Brazil) is convenient, and The Market Aruba in the same area offers cold beer and wine perfect for beach days.
Local specialties worth trying include Balashi (Aruba's own beer, brewed on the island since 1999) and Coecoei, a traditional Aruban liqueur made from the sap of local agave plants—it's sweet and often mixed with rum in cocktails. You might also see Ron Tropical and Fookiu Vodka, which are produced by Aruba Trading Company's local distillery. Pricing: expect to pay $8-15 for a six-pack of beer, $12-30 for a decent bottle of wine, and $20-50+ for spirits depending on the brand. Remember to always check your restaurant bill before ordering cocktails, as drinks at resort bars can easily run $12-18 each!
