Landhuis Habaai, also known as Plantation Welgelegen, is a restored historic plantation house dating from around 1752. One of Curaçao’s oldest landhuizen, it has been a governor’s residence, a boarding house and an orphanage, with each chapter adding to the building’s story.
Straw hat production was another part of life here in the early 1900s, a detail that connects the estate to the island’s craft history. After years of abandonment, the house has been brought back into use and preserved as a historical monument, keeping those different chapters visible in Curaçao’s built heritage.
